West Vancouver homes

West Vancouver homes represent some of the most prestigious real estate in Canada. With twenty-eight miles of shoreline, the magnificent natural beauty of West Vancouver extends from the Capilano River to Horseshoe Bay. With a population of just over 43,000, and an average household income nearly double that of Metro Vancouver (source: 2001 census), residents experience an amazing quality of life with the charm of a bustling community. Hiking opportunities are plentiful, with over 250 hectares of parkland. West Vancouver also boasts marina facilities and waterfront parks. Fishing, boating and scuba diving are some of the popular activities here. West Vancouver homes range in price from modest to multi-million dollar waterfront and view homes.

West Vancouver detached home prices in June 2008 were up .9% over June of last year, reaching a benchmark price of $1,428,139. As the number of units sold declined by 46.4%, the number of detached homes available for sale increased by 17.4%.  (Statistics derived from the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver)

West Vancouver is a community that embraces dynamic, progressive and technologically-advanced learning. With athletic, artistic and academic achievements, West Vancouver schools have ranked consistently in the top percentile of all British Columbia schools. There are 14 primary and elementary and three secondary schools located within the community.

West Vancouver is comprised of several smaller communities including Ambleside Beach which features the Centennial Seawalk. Stroll along the Seawalk and you’ll enjoy the panoramic view of sail boats, freighters, tug boats and cruise ships travelling past the beach and under the Lions Gate Bridge. As a popular meeting place, Ambleside includes a pitch ‘n putt, fitness circuit, dog path and bird sanctuary. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra has been known to play in the park in past summers.

Enjoy the quaint charm of Dundarave Village with its wonderful shops, cafes, restaurants and services. Dundarave also features the Saturday Farmers’ Market between 9am and 4pm from May 10, 2008 to September 27, 2008.

Lighthouse Park is the home of one of Canada’s first manned lightstations. The park, which overlooks Howe Sound, is a fragile remnant of an old growth forest of Douglas fir, western hemlock and western red cedar trees.

West Vancouver also features Cypress Mountain, a year-round wonderland offering panoramic views of city, sea and mountains. Recreational opportunities like hiking and wildlife viewing feature an abundance of natural wildlife such as deer, cougar, racoons and bears. In the winter, Cypress offers activities such as skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing.

Rent a boat or try your hand at fishing in Horseshoe Bay. Alternatively, take a two hour sea safari and watch for harbour seals and bald eagles.

Situated close to the wilderness of the North Shore mountains, West Vancouver is just a short commute across the Lions Gate Bridge to the urban amenities of downtown Vancouver.

There are still real estate deals in this prestigious community, but you need a local market expert to help you.  Alphonse Quenneville is an experienced real estate professional who has actively invested in real estate for more than thirty years.
